Adventures seeker and adrenalin rush lover? Then this is perfect adventure for you! You will see one of the most gracious and dangerous shark in the world – Great White in the distance less then half a meter and much closer!
You will experience and find more interesting facts about this beautiful, dangerous and endanger specie of the ocean. Nobody knows how many of them left in the world and world marine biologists making notes of the same Great White shark spices around the globe noticing them by skin stretch marks and scars and even given them names. Those marine predators are nomad and don’t have permanent place to stay. Therefore same shark can be seen in the different world shark spots. The spot here in South Africa – town Gansbaai definitely well known for Great White visitor.
The trip will begin early in the morning to get on diving with sharks. Our direction – South East. On the way to shark cage diving we will pass such towns as Somerset West, Strand, Hermanus . Road takes about 2.5 hours.

The town where diving takes place is Gansbaai. Gansbaai is famous for its beautiful coast, fishing and a large colony of Cape fur seals – a resort with more than 50 000 fur seals. Seals are favourite sharks food therefore there are many different sharks spices here including Great White. The Discovery program filmed several times the coverage of the Great White Shark in Gansbaai.
Upon arrival light breakfast is served, you will be brieffed on safety rules on the boat. Then you will head off to the open ocean. Shark diving crue know where to find for sharks at the different times of the year. Anchor is dropped and the adventure begins. You will observe the shark under the water, being in a special cage strongly attached to the boat or from the top deck of the boat. Does not require special skills or preparation. You dive under the water in underwater glasses. The sharks are attracted with so called chummy – soup for shark with fish made by the boat crue. The shark smells the fish and appears near the boat. Manipulated by the skipper with the fake fish shark performs various tricks – jumping out of the water and coming very close to the boat.
!!!!VERY IMPORTENT – bring your swimming gear and change before the boat trip to ease your changing into wetsuit.
After 1 hour scenic drive via N2 (National road #2) and go over the Sir Lowry Pass at the Overberg area where mountains covered by fynbos (local bush vegetation) and tall pine trees forests and little rivers along your tranquil route. You will make a stop at the local cosy farm shop at the Elgin town famous for as apple country as many apple farms around here. You can get fresh backed pastry, fruits and drinks here.
Hermanus town famous for whale watching from June to December of every year. Just a leg stretch 5 min stop.
Light Breakfast upon your arrival, Safety briefing on the boat. Heading of to the sea
Boat will drop its anchor at the open ocean to see and admire Great White and other species of the sharks in the cage and from the boat deck. You will be given time to change into wetsuits and start your underwater shark cage diving adventure! Your boat skipper will advise when it is the best time to go into the cage and then under the water to see the shark. Shark can be seen from the deck of the boat as well and often it is a much better view then under the water but if you want that shimmering adrenaline rush mixed with cold-eish ocean water fell, waves rocking boat and the shark trying to snuggle with the cage you in – that is your call to get in there.
Wet, cold but happy you will head back to the shore. We hope this trip met your expectations in full. On the way back (depending on the season and tide) you might stop at the largest Cape Fur Seal Colony in Africa.
